The badge has a nickel finish and is available in three grades: Marksman, Sharpshooter, and Expert.
The design includes a cross pattée with two small rings at the bottom for attaching qualification bars that indicate the specific weapons the soldier has qualified with.
This badge is not permanently earned; soldiers must re-qualify every 12 months to wear the badge from their most recent test.
To earn the basic Marksman badge, a soldier must hit at least 23 out of 40 targets during the qualification test.
