US Military Surplus
I believe this is the most standard type of life preserver used by the US Navy.
It was issued from the 1950s and, with minor revisions, continued to be used until the 90s, adhering to military specifications (MIL-L-15581).
It's an integrated type with a storage pouch, and inflates with a CO2 cylinder and exhaled breath.
This is a valuable lot from the Vietnam War era.
1966 contract.
Ordered by the US Navy.
You may have seen the OD-colored ones for shipboard personnel, but this appears to be an orange-colored item issued to Navy pilots.
The exterior has a somewhat dirty appearance consistent with its age, but there are no tears or major damage. The hardware and belts are in good condition, and the lock on the cylinder joint is still engaged, suggesting it's unused.
Since there is no cylinder, I inflated it with an air pump through the breathing hose, and it inflated easily and didn't leak air, so it seems there are no holes in the main body.
However, as it is a vintage surplus item, it is unknown how much buoyancy it can maintain, so please refrain from using it as a life preserver.
External dimensions when stored: approximately 25x20x10 cm.
This model was adopted for a long time, and if you don't mind the age, there seem to be many of them, but items in this good condition are rare.
