This catalog was published in conjunction with the solo exhibition of Cai Guo-Qiang held at the Prado Museum from 2017 to 2018. Cai Guo-Qiang (born 1957) is an artist from Fujian Province, China. He creates gunpowder drawings and installations rooted in Eastern culture. The exhibition at the Prado Museum began with an ongoing dialogue between the artist and El Greco. While building a deep relationship with masters such as Velázquez and Goya, whose works are displayed at the Prado Museum, he created works within the museum. Approximately 30 "gunpowder paintings" were exhibited in this exhibition, eight of which were actually ignited in the Salón de Reinos of the museum. In addition, paintings and acrylic paintings created by the artist in his early years, as well as sketches of matchboxes drawn by his father, Cai Ruichin, were exhibited. This book includes the exhibited works and also introduces the production process of Cai Guo-Qiang at the Prado Museum.
