[Nujabes] From around 1995, Nujabes was active in a wide range of musical activities based in Shibuya, Tokyo. In July 1995, he opened the record shop "GUINNESS RECORDS" in Shibuya. In March 1999, he established "Park Avenue Studios" in Jinnan, Shibuya, and headed an independent label. After releasing over 30 twelve-inch singles, he released his long-awaited first album, "Metaphorical Music," in 2003. In March 2004, he was selected as the music director for the COMME des GARCONS Bali collection. After producing the sound for the anime "Samurai Champloo" (Fuji TV) and appearing at SonarSound Tokyo, he released his second album, "Modal Soul," in November 2005. In November 2007, he released "2nd Collection," his first record collection album in four and a half years since "FIRST COLLECTION." In 2008, he released the compilation album "Modal Soul Classics By Nujabes," which featured songs that influenced him. Even after his death in a traffic accident in February 2010, his unique sound, which transcended genres, created worldwide followers. In 2018, he was ranked No. 1 as the "most streamed Japanese artist overseas (in the United States)" by Spotify. In 2022, remade songs were used in the "Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Opening Ceremony," which became a hot topic. He continues to be highly regarded worldwide.
