The suburbs of Paris. A riot breaks out in the Muguet housing project, where immigrants and low-income workers live. The next day, news spreads that a young man named Abdel is in critical condition after being assaulted by police officers who came to quell the riot. Vinz (Vincent Cassel), a Jewish youth who lives in this area, takes his friends Saïd and Hubert to the hospital where their friend Abdel is being held, but they clash with the police guarding the hospital and cause a disturbance. Vinz is unable to contain his frustration as the police order them to vacate the rooftop of the building where they used to hang out. Eventually, driven by an impulse to destroy everything, he picks up a pistol he found in the chaos of the riot and points it at the object of his hatred... !
"The Crimson Rivers" director Mathieu Kassovitz depicts a shocking social violence based on a real riot. It won the Grand Prix (Best Director) at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival and was a huge hit worldwide.

I purchased this used and watched it twice.
This is "La Haine" sold by Pioneer LDC. It is a single-disc version, and does not include a bonus disc with deleted scenes or making-of footage.
