The theme is "Ritual." While there isn't a clear message like "No War" as in the 2015 Spring/Summer collection, let's try to interpret Kawakubo's message from the two characteristics: diagonal and tattoo. In this age of information overload, we know that even if the source is a major newspaper or TV, it's not necessarily correct. Also, while Japan today dislikes tattoos, they were extremely common 300 years ago in the Edo period, and even earlier, in the Jomon and Yayoi periods, Japan is said to have had one of the world's leading tattoo cultures. What I want to say is that if you change your perspective slightly, what is considered correct might not be, and what is disliked might be liked. This collection is a "ritual to convey the importance of looking at the world diagonally."
