Antique Mustache Mug, Chang Pattern c.1880, Ironstone China, England

This antique mustache mug is in the "Chang" transfer pattern which features figures in a garden. It was produced between 1871 and 1891 by Edge Malkin & Co., Burslem, England. The company made earthenware and ironstone-china at the Newport Works. The base mark is known as the "greyhound mark" and reads, "(greyhound image) /Trade Mark /E. M. & Co. (in a banner) /B"; the 'B' stands for "Burslem". The mug measures 3¾ in. wide at the rim and 4 5/8 in. wide including the handle; height is 3 3/8 in. Condition is very good with no chips or cracks; there is one small manufacturing flaw on the base ring about 1/8" in size (see pic #4).
