Overview
Up for sale is a significant primary-source document of the North Dakota Land Boom. This 1908 color-tinted "Greetings from Hettinger" postcard features a rare, early postmark from the town’s first year of existence and a handwritten message that captures the spirit of the American frontier.

Historical Significance
The Event: Mailed October 23, 1908, during the peak of the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Land Lottery. The sender, Robert Krambeer, writes to his parents in Monona, Iowa, detailing his scouting trip to the "Wild West."

The Message: A fascinating first-person account:

"Helo Folks I am now in the wild west ben looking at some land I met Art and Henry Badie at Lemmon They were up and regestered for some land..."

The Railroad Connection: This card dates to the immediate aftermath of the Milwaukee Road (Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul) arrival in the region. The town of Hettinger was platted just one year prior (1907) by the railroad’s land agents.
